Time to C

Chrono-Logical: A Passage of Time Visual Novel

2024

Background

TimeToC was this game my friends and I barely put together during a GameJam at my university with the theme of Out of Time.

None of us had touched Godot before, so half the weekend was just us staring at random errors and wondering why anything worked at all.

We basically lived at our friend Sage’s place for two days straight. Just coding, eating fast food, and having these moments where we’d look at each other like, “Yeah, we are cooked.” It was kind of demoarlizing to be honest, and there were a few times where it felt like the whole project was about to collapse.

But we kept pushing, even when we were running on maybe two hours of sleep and questionable decision-making. And somehow, at the very end, it all came together. Barely. But it did.

Looking back, I’m really proud of what we pulled off. It wasn’t easy, but it was one of those experiences that sticks with you. They tell you struggle builds character. I say it builds my ability to write sphagetti code under pressure.

About the Game

  • `Chrono-logical (time to C) is a narrative driven game that explores the pressure of time and societal expectations. The game takes players through various life stages—each represented by a series of tests. where they must achieve a high score to progress. However, as the game unfolds, the player will confront deeper philosophical questions about time, success, and the importance of living authentically.
  • The joke about it being named "time to C" is a play on the fact that you need a 70% to pass each stage. C's get degrees, right?
